Effects of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles on Nitrous Oxide Emissions in Agriculture Soil

Metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely used in industrial and agricultural production introduced into soils. The impact of these on soil nitrous (N2O) emission is unclear. We conducted a microcosm experiment to investigate the effects titanium (TiO2 NPs), copper (CuO aluminum (Al2O3 NPs) N2O emissions abundance functional genes related production/reduction. Compared without NPs addition, TiO2 applied produced no significant effect emissions. denitrification process exposed CuO was inhibited by reducing nitrite reductase (nirK) increasing (nosZ), while added stimulated cumulative 92.7%. After application Al2O3 soil, nitrification inhibiting ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB amoA), reduced 48.6%. Large-scale soils may stimulate resulting potential environmental risks.
